Get to “Know” Jordan

Get to “Know” Jordan

We are excited to announce the appointment of Jordan Renwick as our Group
Chief Technical Officer.

We sat down with Jordan for a quick chat to learn more about
him and why he wanted to be a #knowitall

Welcome to Know-it! Tell us a bit about yourself

Sure, I’m a local, born and raised just outside Glasgow.
I’ve spent the last decade in and around technology working for a bunch of
companies along the way. I’ve worked everywhere from retail stores to call
centres and I’m super grateful for the fundamentals this taught me about how
businesses could and should operate.

I spent around 6 years in Consultancy and worked with over
150 different companies during that time, from small businesses to huge
enterprises and everything in between across a bunch of different technology
products.

I’m a true geek at heart, I like to tinker, I like to get
WAY too involved in things and that immersion is key to how I learn. I’ve got a
bunch of obscure hobbies from building racing drones and 3D Printing to more
mainstream ones like playing the guitar and cycling.

I’ve got a young family so sometimes the immersion into
hobbies isn’t as easy as I’d like, but with them I have the chance to explore
all of the cool things I loved during my childhood, so win win!

You’ve worked for Know-it before, what made you want to
join us full time?

Know-it were clients of mine for many years during my time
in consultancy. I knew the team well and helped build some of the foundations
they used on their path to success so far. I spoke to Lynne & the team and after
hearing the plans for the future, it was a no-brainer to come onboard and help bring
that vision to life.

What were your first impressions of the Know-it platform
and how it will help businesses?

One of the biggest challenges in business is making sure you
get paid, this also presents a real barrier to entry in people taking that risk
and jumping into their own business.

I love that we are solving real world problems whilst also
removing some of those barriers to entrepreneurship, hopefully opening doors
for the next big thing to be realised in the knowledge we are there supporting
them do their thing!

What existing skills & experience do you hope to
transfer over to your new role at Know-it?

I’ve built a career on taking wants and needs and turning
these into tangible solutions using technology. Whether this is something super
simple or ground-breaking, these gains can quickly add up and flip a business on
its head.

I’ve worked with a lot of businesses, charities, local
government bodies, universities and more which means the good, bad and ugly are
all too familiar! I’ve seen things done well and seen businesses solve some
real challenges and I’m excited about the opportunity to translate this into
success for our customers and our staff.

What are your thoughts on the growing tech scenes across
Scotland and what would you like to see happen in the industry?

It’s a great thing to see. There’s a lot of talented people
in Scotland and it’s fantastic to see companies here hiring, retaining and
building on this talent. Not so long ago if you wanted a job in tech,
relocation was top of your list and whilst it’s a good option for some, it’s not
for others.

I’d love to see continued investment in this space and this
filtering through to younger generations to allow them to see that there are a
bunch more jobs out there than they thought and how they can get themselves
ready to smash it when they reach the workplace.

What’s first on your to do list at Know-it?

With the business being in a great position, the first items
on my list all relate to scalability and refinement of how we do things today.
This should allow us to service a more diverse group of customers whilst
keeping our levels of service where we would expect them to be.

As we move forward, I think there is always scope for us to
be creative and take advantage of new and emerging tech so that we can continue
to build on the great foundations we have in place.
